Steve Martinko
Master Instrument Maker
Cello and Bass maker, Steve Martinko is a master at Bass restorations and setups. Through his repair and set-up work he has enjoyed a close working relationship with many of Canada's finest Bass players. His Basses are highly respected both for their high standard of work, and their fine sound. Born in 1944 near Zagreb, Croatia, Steve immigrated to Canada in 1968. Having trained as a guitar maker in his homeland, Steve quickly found work in several of Toronto's string instrument shops. He settled at Heinl's. A lifelong folk musician, and versatile as a luthier, Steve has also made Tamburizas for many Croatian folk musicians. Steve has been a presence in Heinl's shop since 1977.
